Region Västra Götaland supports initiatives in the fields of research and innovation that gather partners from academia, the business world and the public sector to lay the groundwork for future job opportunities in West Sweden and the region’s continued international competitiveness.
Västra Götaland’s prospects for becoming one of Europe’s leading knowledge regions are good. The region is home to five higher education institutions, robust research environments, the headquarters for Sweden’s collective institute sector and successful entrepreneurship and innovation environments. Global, knowledge-intensive companies are also active here and help contribute to Västra Götaland’s ranking as one of Europe’s most innovative regions.
Horizon 2020
Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020) – in addition to the private investment that this money will attract. It promises more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market.
